[Trusted Cloud Digest] Cédric O announces, in OVHcloud’s office in Paris, the innovation strategy to support the cloud industry
On Tuesday, November 2, we were delighted to welcome Cédric O, Secretary of State for the Digital Transition and Electronic Communications, and representatives from the French and European cloud industry to our Paris premises. The Secretary of State symbolically selected OVHcloud’s Paris offices to present France’s industrial plan, the last pillar of the country’s cloud strategy, which was announced in May 2021 by Bruno Le Maire and Amélie de Montchalin.
Built with the SecNumCloud label, this planis the third pillar of the national cloud strategy, the continuation of the new “cloud at the centre” doctrine to transform public authorities and valuing trusted offers SecNumCloud label holders. This €1.8bn plan is part of the 4th Future Investment Programme (PIA4) and France Relance.
The French and European cloud sector, represented by Oodrive, Outscale, Thales, Scaleway and OVHcloud, along with numerous players from the French tech ecosystem, such as Talkspirit, Mediarithmics, Sekoia, Whaller, Linagora, Jamespot and Talentsoft, came together for this announcement. We are very proud to be part of this ecosystem, made up of an incredible talent pool: software publishers, hosting solutions and start-ups working in domains as diverse as work collaborative tools, HR management, cybersecurity, AI, etc.
They show us that France has all the potential to create digital champions who will succeed in the European and international markets.
At OVHcloud, trusted cloud, sovereignty and data protection are already operational realities of our day-to-day lives, as evidenced by our qualified SecNumCloud offers available since September. This qualification, also attributed to services offered by Outscale and Oodrive, ensures that European customers’ data can now benefit from the highest level of security.
To be fully effective, however, France’s cloud strategy will need to fit into a European framework that can create rules for the sector. We urgently need to ensure fair market access, maintain control over our data, protect our infrastructure, and meet the challenge of ecological transition. The European Union has grasped the importance of the subject, many initiatives are underway and the forthcoming French EU Presidency will be decisive for the future of one of the most promising technological sectors.
Industrial policy is a decades-long game. The American experience over the past thirty years has been more effective than ours. We will catch up and stay in the race. We're not giving up the fight" said Cédric O.
Indeed, the battle is not lost for the cloud. France believes and supports our industry. As Europe’s leading cloud services provider, OVHcloud is working hard to ensure that the success of the French cloud sector is a source of inspiration for the continent, helping European users’ data sovereignty. We are very pleased with the strong signal that the French state is giving to the European cloud sector and our entire industry.
I am delighted with the strong support that the French state has decided to give us, because to impose ourselves, beyond the talents we have within the French tech sector, we need a strong local environment, but above all orders! ” comments Michel Paulin, CEO of OVHcloud.
