OVHcloud to provide sovereign cloud services for the ECB digital euro

Roubaix – March 19th 2026 – OVHcloud, a global cloud player and the European Cloud leader, announces that it has been chosen as a subcontractor of the first-ranked tenderer Senacor Technologies in the European Central Bank’s framework agreement “Digital euro - Secure Exchange of Payment Information“. OVHcloud is set to offer a sovereign European cloud infrastructure for the European Central Bank's (ECB) digital euro project as part of a group of Cloud Service Providers. With digital technologies reshaping modern economies, Europe faces a critical choice: accept strategic dependency or assert control over its own future. The digital euro, anchored in a sovereign European Cloud, is Europe’s commitment to safeguarding its financial sovereignty. This project is a new milestone in the Group’s strategic momentum in developing sovereign infrastructures across Europe that effectively strengthen digital autonomy and provide security and transparency to citizens. 

The digital euro is a project run by the European Central Bank, which aims to provide a digital means of payment for electronic payments in shops, online or from person to person(*). Technically, the digital euro architecture will leverage SEPI (Secure Exchange of Payment Information) and through the European Central Bank’s tender procedure, Senacor Technologies has been selected to develop this key component. 

The SEPI system is designed to enable the secure exchange of payment information between the organisations involved in the future digital euro system. In this framework, OVHcloud will provide a sovereign cloud infrastructure operated entirely within the European Union, thereby participating in supporting the first-ranked tenderer’s technical work in accordance with the ECB's requirements.

* The ECB Governing Council‘s final decision on whether to issue a digital euro, and on what date, will only be taken once the legislation has been adopted. Under the assumption that European co-legislators will adopt the Regulation on the establishment of the digital euro in the course of 2026, the whole Eurosystem should then be ready for a potential first issuance of the digital euro during 2029.
